The Faery Alter
Sprite begins a rites of Spring ceremony.
(This fellow is part goblin I believe, Some times the different faerie races intermingle)
Faeries Can come in almost any form you can imagine, and many different creatures can be catogorized under the name of faery. Nymphs, Pixies, Sprites, Gnomes, Elves, Fawns, banshees, and even goblins are all known as faeries now and again. I remorse to say that the only reason I give goblins their own section is because of the ridiculous amount of times I have had confrontations with them. Elves will also be covered in another section.Their are many, many types of faeries that I have not personally encountered, though I am sure the list will grow, as they are everywhere and I am often on the move. A faerie is essentialy a Creature of magic, not to be confused with a creature that can do magic. Indeed some humans can even toil in magic but they are not made of it, it is not the fabric of their being as it is with faeries. I have heard an exceptional few mortals transcenting into the world of magic and becoming fey themselves, but it is by no means an easy task. The rare honor is bestowed upon only the most dedicated of witches and wizards. Most Humans do not and cannot grasp the truth of magic or of Faeries for that matter. Faeries in general are often misinterpreted by human society as being friendly little Sprites, and as I have said they are in fact not all Sprites nor are they usually of a friendly nature. Even Sprites have a great diversity to them, and so I will begin our venture into the world of faeries with Sprites as they are the type most commonly assosiated with the notion of faeries.
Sprites
(A flower Sprite)
If you were to ask the man on the street about faeries you would likely hear a pleasant little jont about Sprites. Sprites are the little faeries with ear to ear grins and pretty wings and things. These creatures are usually subcatogorized by their flora counterpart. Each sprite has a link to some sort of plant life. This link leads them to being called things like Flower Sprite, Tree Sprite, Srub Sprite, Etc. These names then can be narrowed down to the name of the flower and the name of the Sprite linked to it.The links also serve as a decisive influence in a Sprites chosen form. Sprites will often have skin or wing colourations that compliment or coordinate well with their flora's appearance. It is common for sprites to shape shift, they can be seen walking about at the height of a human even if their natural size is quite small. The cheery demeanor that has become a trademark of Sprites can be very misleading, the motives behind their exuberance can be very dark indeed. Their wings are limitless in beauty, color, and style, and they tend to strut them as fashion accessories more then relish them for the practical use that is inherent. Each independant Sprite also serves a purpose in nature, one may grandly govern over the whole affair of summers transition to fall while another simply helps the leaves change colours.
Pixies
(This Pixie is the caretaker of the Jackalope)
Ah.... the Faeries that hold sway over the Fauna of our world. Each Pixie has a link to an animal and serves as part of a simbiotic relationship, in which one protects the other. Similar to the link between Sprites and flora, these bonds often translate into distinguishable physical features.
